We are experts in mole control and are not your typical Elgin, Illinois pest control or exterminator company. First, we do not use poisons or the majority of repellents, since they do not work. Moles are difficult to remove and can only really be completely removed from your yard with mole traps, a process we have practiced and perfected over the years. In addition, if a mother mole has babies, we will make sure to remove her pups by hand before dealing with the mother mole. We are not a typical Elgin mole exterminator company. We completely solve your mole problem by taking these steps:
- Inspect the entire property grounds - lawn, yard, garden, etc.
- Set several pro traps in mole tunnels - the correct and safe way!
- Remove all moles as they are caught and monitor for activity
- Once there is no more activity and no more moles caught, we're done
- When needed, fill in tunnels and seal with underground fencing
What Prices Do We Charge?
Every wildlife situation is different: How many moles? Size of lawn? Do you need trapping, prevention, repairs? Call us and we can give pricing for your specific situation.
Elgin mole pest control animal tip: What is a mole hill?
The reason most people figure out that they might be dealing with a mole infestation on their property is the spotting of a mole hill, the rather infamous signal that a mole is nearby. So we thought it would be a good idea to talk a bit about mole hills, what they look like, what causes them, and what to do after you've spotted one.
Typically, moles engage in two types of digging: shallow and deep. The shallow digging is used to create a complex maze of tunnels from which they find food in the short term (they mainly feast on slugs, earthworms, and other such critters), as well as to get from one place to another. Shallow digging results in mole runways, these surface tunnels that look like long, raised ridges in the soil. It's useful to know where shallow tunnels are because you can then use them to trap or poison the mole, and thus get rid of the problem. You might also collapse the shallow tunnels repeatedly to discourage moles from returning to your property.
The other type of digging, the deep kind results in mole hills. Moles generally use deep digging to create lower tunnels, which they can then monitor, in hopes of catching long-term "food". Since these are much deeper into the ground, they do not cause runways, but mounds of earth.
A mole hill is essentially a small mound of soil, and can quickly kill the grass on your lawn. People tend to expect to see just the one mole hill, but in fact, there will be several on your property, forming a sort of indirect row, if there's a mole living underneath.
So that being said, what can you do once you spot mole hills?
Once you spot mole hills, we suggest also looking for the runways, which can't be too far away. These are easily collapsible and, as mentioned, can be used to set traps or poisoned bait for the mole, or alternatively to trap the mole into a bucket (thus not killing it) and relocate it somewhere else.
Alternatively, you might also call a mole removal professional once you start spotting mole hills, to get rid of the problem for you. One thing is certain, you do not want to hesitate, because the more time they're left down there, the more damage the moles will cause to your lawn, flower beds, and garden.
